Caster Wheel Cleaning and Maintenance
The front caster wheels on Kachaka and Kachaka Pro, along with the casters on the underside of each dedicated shelf, roll in constant contact with the floor. They readily pick up dust, hair, thread, and lint. Once tangled debris jams a caster and it no longer turns freely, the robot can veer off course, drive unsteadily, or fail to reach its destination.
To keep Kachaka running smoothly over the long term, make caster cleaning a routine: clean once or twice a month.
Which casters to clean
- The front caster on the Kachaka base
- The casters on the underside of each dedicated Kachaka shelf
Cleaning steps
- Wipe the wheel surface with a dry cloth or a firmly wrung-out damp cloth to remove dust and grime.
- If a lot of hair or thread is wound around the edge of the caster, cut through the tangle with scissors first.
- Grip the clump of hair and thread with needle-nose pliers and pull it out.
- Remove any fine remaining debris with fine-tipped tweezers.
Notes
- The casters cannot be disassembled. Do not take them apart; clean them only from the outside as described above.
- If a caster still turns poorly after cleaning, or the robot keeps driving unsteadily or failing to reach destinations, the issue may go beyond trapped debris. First work through Kachaka Won’t Move or Move Forward and Cannot Reach Destination or Dock With Shelf. If the problem persists, contact Sigma for inspection.
